The area of a certain rectangle is equal to 1 m2. What is the area of a triangle that was cut off from that rectangle alongthe line connecting the midpoints of the two adjacent sides?

A) 33 dm2
B) 25 dm2
C) 40dm2
D) 3,750 cm2
E) 1,250cm2

Area of triangle is 1/4 of Area of rectangle.

my answer is B) 25 dm2

but the right answer is E)1,250cm2

Please explain how the answer is 1,250cm2

The two adjacent sides of rectangle would be "x" and "1/x"

So the triangle would have sides "x/2" and "1/(2x)"

What would be the area of that triangle?

Please explain why you think the area of the triangle is 1/4 that of the rectangle.

Perhaps you are thinking of the triangle formed by joining opposite corners of the rectangle.

The area of triangle is = 1/2 (1/2h.1/2b) = 1/8(h.b).

Area of triangle

The area of triangle is = 1/2 (1/2h.1/2b) = 1/8(h.b).

Got it.
Thank you.
