Professor Jones is interested in whether males and females differ in their performance in statistics course. If professor Jones assesses how the 23 males and 31 females in her statistics course perform on the course final exam, what is the appropriate statistical analysis to determine whether males and females differ? Explain the factors that went into your decision.

I think the appropriate one is the Kruskal-Wallis test but I’m not sure.

Does Prof. Jones need to compare the means only?

If "normality" of data can be assumed - then you can run Student-T test.
