Hi, this is my 1st post and my daughter is a bit confused, I'm wondering if someone might be able to have a look at the pic and give us some help? Cheers

You'll have to define "three-median smoothing". What is it? How does it work?
To get an estimate for December, should you select 3 Decembers or the desired December and the surrounding quarters?
Are there no instructions on the assignment? Maybe a textbook for this assignment has offered some suggestion as to what it wants?

I agree with tkhunny that you need to give us the definition to three-median smoothing and four-mean smoothing as this is not commonly known. Please post back with either the definitions or worked out problems and I am sure that we can offer help.

I looked up three-median smoothing and here is what I found.

If you are working with Dec 13, you list that data value, the one before it and the one after it. Place the three numbers in order. The answer will be the middle number.

Sep 13 ----3000
Dec 13 -----6000
March 14-----9000

List the numbers in order: 3,000 6,000 9,000.
The answer is the 6,000

I'm assuming this is the Australian curriculum (Qld?). Does your daughter have a textbook? If so, I'm sure there would be a worked example in the book. If not, please come back and I'll walk you through it.

So THAT's where all the unsold Fidget Spinners went when U.S. stores dumped them!
