Probability, PLEASE HELP :(

I
Please show us where you are stuck. Were you able to answer (a)? We'll want to see your work as far as you got.
i have been able to get till (c) but after that I haven’t been able to get it (d), (e) and (f). I tried multiple steps and have been stuck with it for a long time. I tried multiple things for D but the answers that I got just seems weird. I tried replacing the x in 4000x with all of the x values in the probability distribution function of x. And the max profit I got was 10,000 and the corresponding value I got was 0.5. But I don’t know if its correct or not and I don’t know what exactly is the answer. And then for e and f I haven’t been able to come a single conclusion despite of going through the notes.

We really want to see your work, or at least your answers, to all parts you did, in case they affect other parts (e.g. what is k?). It will definitely be useful to see your actual work on (d).

It seems pretty obvious to me that they make the most profit when there are no accidents (based on the formula, not just common sense), so your answer to (d) seems pretty sound to me. Trust your reasoning, unless you have good reason not to!

For (e), what would X have to be in order to lose money? Look at the formula for Y. Then you'll use your result in (f).

I think you are expecting this to be a lot harder than it is. Don't look through your notes expecting a special formula; just focus on the words of the problem, and think about how things are related.
