They did the same thing as you, except they recognized that the LCD is not xx2+x, but xx+1, because x2+x=xx+1.How does the limit get transformed into x→0+limxx+1x+1−1?
What are the missing steps?

Agreed.From line 2 to 3 you multiplied out the denominator. I would never do that, just in case you can cancel out from top to bottom. If you distribute (ie un factor) you'll never see that things can cancel.
