KJ Painting is estimating the time it will take to paint the 8,600 sq ft of walls of a school gym. Kay can paint 420 sq ft in 4 hours. Jay can paint 540 sq ft in 5.5 hours. They are going to add 15% to the initial square footage time estimate for the extra time required for painting the tall walls of the gym. How much time do they estimate to the nearest quarter hour?

I am puzzled as to what "square footage time" means! Are you adding 15% to the area or the time?

In any case, Kay is painting 105 sq ft per hour and Jay is painting 98.18 sq ft per hour.
 
Adding 15% to the initial square footage time estimate. I'm quessing add 15 % to 8600 sq ft.
 
You can't add a percent to a number! I think you are saying that you want to add 15% of 8600 to 8600. Okay, what is that?
