Draw the rectangle. Draw its diagonal, forming the right triangle.

Label two of the sides of the triangle with the given values.

Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the other side.

So this is what I got is it correct?

So lets say(pluging it into the Pythagorean Theorem a^2+b^2=c^2) that 25=c,24=a, and b=width(w)

so then 24^2 + b^2 =25^2
that would mean 576 + b^2= 625
then you would do 625-576 =49
so b^2=49
then you would find the square root of both giving you

b=7

so the width of the rectangle would be 7 correct??

You can check the answer to any "solving" exercise by plugging it back into the original problem.

. . . . .For a rectangle with length 24 and width 7,
. . . . .is the diagonal 25?

. . . . .Check:

. . . . .252 = 625
. . . . .242 + 72 = 576 + 49 = 625

Since the solution "checks", it would appear to be valid.
