addition method

Solved By substituion

-4y=10
4x+3+1

did you mean?
-4y=10
4x+3y=1

Take
-4y=10 and divide both sides by -4 getting y=10/-4 or y=5/-2 or -2.5 (simplified)

Not this tells is Y IS 5/-2 so i Substitute it in for y in the other equation

4x+3(5/-2)=1 substitute y in
4x -7.5 = 1 multiply by 3 and make it a decimal
4x= 1 +7.5 Add 7.5 to both sides
4x=8.5 Combine constants
x= 8.5/4 Divide both sides by 4
x= 2.125

answer is (2.125, -2.5) solved by substitution

Oh and I hate how textbooks over complicate problems by introducing fractions and decimals too early!
