A room measuring 3.5m by 4.2m by 2.4m high is to be painted. All surfaces except the floor are to be painted. How many square meters of surface are to be painted, to one decimal place?
Hello. The area of a rectangle is the product of its two dimensions (eg: a rectangle measuring 3m by 6.5m has area 3×6.5 square meters).
The room in this exercise has four rectangular walls, and each wall is each 2.4m high. How wide is each wall?
Calculate each wall's area as Width × Height and do not round anything, yet. (Hint: Walls that face each other have the same area.)
The ceiling is also a rectangle. It has the given length and width. What is the area of the ceiling?
Add the area of the ceiling to the combined area of the four walls, to get the total area of the room (not including the floor). Now round the answer to one decimal place.
