Driving down a mountain, Tom finds that he has descended 1800 ft
in elevation by the time he is 3.25 mi horizontally away from the top of the mountain. find the slope of his descent to the nearest hundreth.

I am not sure on how I should go about solving this problem.

y=3.25x miles + 1800 ft Is this a good start??

Slope is rise over run, so 3.5 miles is 17160 feet in 'run' from the mountain. And 1800 feet in 'rise'.

So, the slope is 1800/17160=15/143.

See?.
