Area divided by a ratio

Please help on this problem given to my son in his school .
An area of a land of 1000 sqm is divided by a ratio of 2:3 what is the area of the largest portion.

Please tell your son to show us his work - including exactly where he is stuck. It will be easier if he communicates directly with us.

2:3 means you dived the land into 2+3 = 5 parts. On 2 parts you grow lettuce and the 3 parts you grow corn. Does this help?
