argh! exponents and factoring

1st of all, I need to know how to put an exponent on my problem. Could you help with that and then I'll post my question.

I need to know how to put an exponent on my problem.

Use the caret symbol ^ (shifted six, on most keyboards).

Also, for clarity, you will need to enclose the base and/or the exponent within grouping symbols, if either of them contain more than one factor.

EGs

Type \(\displaystyle x^3\) as x^3

Type \(\displaystyle x^{2a}\) as x^(2a)

Type \(\displaystyle (4x)^y\) as (4x)^y
