Can anyone work out the calculation in the diagram.
Each individual row of 2 columns totals 9 with the most recent row at the top of the page.
The challenge is to find a formula where previous rows determine the split of number 9 in each next row.

Your attachment is extremely faint - I could not read it.

If I'm reading correctly, the puzzle is essentially to find a formula for the sequence (reading the first column from the bottom)

8, 5, 5, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 4, 8

The right column adds nothing, except perhaps a hint that 9 is involved.

In general, such a puzzle does not have one correct answer; we can't possibly tell you with certainty what was done to produce these numbers, or what the next number would be. But if you can tell us anything about the context of your question, there could be a clue to suggest what sort of formula (or algorithm) might have been used.

So, where did it come from, and why are you asking?
