can i please get some help



calculate the probability that a person would be wearing the following combination given the percentage listed below

note: the % sign mean how manny out of 100
25% of people wear black hats
75% of people wear black shoes
50% of people wear white socks
25% of people wear white shirts
86% of people wear blue jeans

what is the probability that a person would be wearing everything listed above by himself? and out of 100 people?
 
Well, a percent is just a part of 100, so I doubt you will have much trouble finding how many people wear this out of 100 after you find the percent.

The problem is this:

[MATH]{25}/{100}*75/100*50/100*25/100*86/100[/MATH]
Reduced:

[MATH]1/4*3/4*1/2*1/4*43/50[/MATH]
Can you proceed?

The correct answer, as far as I can tell, is that there is not enough information.

If we knew that clothing choices were random and independent (that is, choosing blue jeans has no effect on whether I wear white socks, and so on), then you could just multiply the percentages together, as has been said. But if people have any sort of fashion sense (in the sense that they care what goes together), then there is no way to know. It could be that the same 25 people who wear black hats, for example, also wear a white shirt, rather than that 25% of people wear a black hat, and 25% of those (as in the overall population) wear a white shirt (which is what independence implies.

Have you been taught about independent events?
