Currently having a bit of a disagreement on whether the answer for this question is $11,250 or $12,000.20220514_081233.png

This is Correct
I think the question is missing a piece of information, whether the sales were one occurrence or made up of multiple. If we were to assume that it's one occurrence, then 20% of 40,000=8,000 -> Her total salary is 4,000+8,000=12,000.

We don't have enough information as to the value of each occurrence to do what the OP did. For example, the sales could've been made up of two occurrences:
(1) 5k -> Commission is 10% * 5k = 500
(2) 35k-> Commission is 20%*35k = 7000
Total salary= 4000+7000+500=11500.

I believe that the question isn't meant to be answered like tax brackets and it's only answerable if we were to assume the 40k is from one occurrence of sale.

I had assumed, like it is done at corporations (at USA), that the "bonus" is calculated at the end of each month, and paid up along with the salary, and the bonus is progressive. But then as you said, the question was not totally explicit.

I'd like to know what happens to that $1 from $5000 to $5001?!

There was this banker who had a way of making extra money--until he got caught and went to prison. Here is what he did--You know how at the end of the day you might have $3024.24765 in your account. Well he stole that $0.00765 from every account in the bank every day.
