Check whether the given number is a solution of the equation or inequality....

So you plugged the given value into the given equation for the given variable, simplified, compared "25" on the right-hand side with the simplified value of the left-hand side, and... then what? Where are you stuck?

The solution to an equation should make the equation TRUE when that solution is substituted for the variable.

If you have a solution for the equation (which you think might be correct), you can check.

Substitute that value for the variable in the equation (I don't like the term "plug in"....there is no mathematical property for plugging in. You can plug in a lamp, or a tv...)

If the equation is true when you substitute the value you got for the varialble, then you KNOW that value is a correct solution.

I'm not sure what you mean by "that's how it is on the paper."
