I need help with this problem. I have real problems with word problems and just don't even know where to start.

Find three consecutive integers such that the sum of their squares is 77.

I am thinking it has something to do with 11, but can't figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Cindy

Pick a variable to stand for the first integer.

Write an expression for the next integer.

Write another expression for the integer after that.

Square the variable and each of the expressions.

Add the squares. Simplify.

Set the simplified sum equal to "77".

Solve the equation.

If you get stuck, please reply showing how far you have gotten. Thank you.
