i got this problem:3x^3-6x^2-24x
it says to factor it, well, i got the common factor 3x and i ended up with
3x(x-2x-8x) what did i do wrong? or did i do somethin' wrong?
:? javascript:emoticon(':?')

yes you did something wrong that is not the right answer

find two numbers whose product equals 3
and find two products whose product equals 24

multiply all the possible factorizations
until you get the middle number

you did do something wrong you havent factored from everything.your answer should have been:3x(x^2-2x-8).thats what it should have been.

here is the problem: 3x^3-6x^2-24x

....you got the common factor right which is 3x.
you have divide 3x into all the three numbers and it will look like this:
..................3x(x^2-2x-8)

next you simplify it and it will look something like this:
..................3x (x-4) (x+2)

I hope this will help you.
