Andy rides his bike through a tunnel shaped like the top half of an ellipse. The tunnel is 11 meters wide and 2.4 meters high. On his bike, the top of Andy's helmet is 1.8 meters above the ground. If he were to ride through the tunnel 3.9 meters from the center, would his helmet miss the ceiling? If so, by how much?

\(\displaystyle Equation \ of \ the \ Ellipse: \ \frac{y^2}{2.4^2}+\frac{x^2}{5.5^2} \ = \ 1\)

\(\displaystyle Hence, \ when \ x \ = \ 3.9, \ y \ \dot= \ 1.7, \ so \ he \ will \ be \ about \ .1 \ meter \ to \ tall\)

\(\displaystyle to \ go \ through \ the \ tunnel \ at \ that \ point. \ No \ can \ do, \ see \ graph.\)
