What does dT mean? Is it a derivation or is this a difference?
I am not familiar with this kind of notation.

It is defined in your attachment. Look at 6th line down from top of the paragraph 3.3.1.1.

Nothing in the "attached" paper say anything about solving the equation 14.

You want to solve for which unknown variable in equation 14? What is your assignment?
