find the an equation of a line through the point (2,5) with slope 1/2

I tried this problem out and I'm not getting the answer, please help.

Hello, Kwesi74!

Evidently, you're not familiar with the Point-Slope Formula.
. . What have you been taught? .Just the Slope-Intercept form: . y=mx+b\displaystyle y \,= \,mx + b ?

Find the an equation of a line through the point (2,5) with slope 1/2
We are given the slope: m=12\displaystyle m \,= \,\frac{1}{2}
. . The equation (so far) is; .y=12x+b\displaystyle y \,= \,\frac{1}{2}x + b

Since (2,5)\displaystyle (2,5) is on the line, we have: x=2,  y=5.\displaystyle x = 2,\;y = 5.

Plug those into our equation: . 5  =  12(2)+bb=4\displaystyle 5 \;= \;\frac{1}{2}(2) + b\quad\Rightarrow\quad b = 4

There! . . . The equation is: .y  =  12x+4\displaystyle y \;= \;\frac{1}{2}x + 4
