Hi everyone I'm new on here. If anyone cares to answer...That will be awesome! I will continue to look for the answer as well.
This problem is from khan academy. (I am a adult, just reviewing for future qualifying test in my free time. So dont worry its not a real test.)
Equation: 2/3b+5=20-b

They say they are adding b to both sides: 2/3b+5+b=20-b+b getting: 5/3b+5=20....not sure how they got 5/3b.

Thanks in advanced. Happy holidays.

2/3b + 5 + b = 20 …

getting:

5/3b + 5 = 20

… not sure how they got 5/3b
The five-thirds b comes from combining the whole b and two-thirds b.

2/3∙b + b

Factor out b

(b)(2/3 + 1)

Combine 2/3 and 1. Do you know how to add a fraction and whole number? If not, let us know. (Hint: you need a common denominator, before doing addition or subtraction with a fraction.)

The result may be typed differently; everyone has their own preference.

5/3∙b = (b)(5/3) = 5b/3 = (5/3)(b) = (5/3)b ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏
