This is a word problem - do not get the correct answer and can't figure out why so here is the question:
You purchase a stero system for $830. After 3 months trial period, the value of the stero system decreases 13% each year.
Write an exponential decay model for the value of the stereo system in terms of the number of years since the purchase.
The correct answer is 830(.87)t-1/4 I get this answer
What is the value of the system after 1 year?
The correct answer is $747.68
I did not get this.
I get $722 when I multiply 830 * .87, and then don't know how to reflect the 3 months of no depreciation. I don't know how to solve the t-1/4.
Thanks for any help!!
