Use synthetic division to determine if x - c is a factor of the given polynomial function.

3x^4 + x^3 - 3x + 1; x + (1/3).

Change 1/3 to -1/3. Plug into function.

3(-1/3)^4 + (-1/3)^3 - 3(-1/3) + 1

I got 0. I say x +(1/3) is a factor of the polynomial function.

Yes, that is correct. But it is not using "synthetic division".

You are right. It is not synthetic division but it is really hard to type the synthetic division process using a keyboard. I can do synthetic division easily on paper.
