Factoring ax^2+bx+c

I had this problem on a test and i got it wrong. I have no idea were i went wrong. Please help me. I would really appreciate it. Thankyou.

Well here it is: 8y^2-2y-3


This is what i did maybe you can spot the my mistake.

8y^2-2y-3 4y-1


2y-1 it comes out to equal 2 please show hoe to do it the rite way.

What are you trying to do here? What were the directions for this problem? We need to know that before we can help you.

From the looks of your post, Chief, you need to start listening in class!

If that's to be factored, then: (4y - 3)(2y + 1)

We can't TEACH factoring here...
