Find the values of a so that the area under graph of y=x+1/x from a to a+1 is a minimum
Please help I believe the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus is needed but I cannot get an answer.
\(\displaystyle Area(a) \ = \ \int_a^{a+1} \left (x + \frac{1}{x}\right ) dx\)
complete the integration and show us what you get...
\(\displaystyle A \;=\;\frac{1}{2}(a+1)^2 - \frac{1}{2}a^2 + \ln(a+1) - \ln (a)\)
Is this correct?
