sorry if this in the wrong place, or frivolous somehow haha- but here goes.

working on a triangulation system for emergency beacons. beacon transmits the distance to your receiver in meters.
i know that on a piece of paper- given the location of 3 receivers and a compass- it would be fairly easy to find the location of the beacon.

i have no idea how i would do the same via a math equation, is it possible? and if so where do i google haha.
thanks very much

I have no idea what "game lua" refers to, and won't bother to find out.

I also don't think I've ever heard of a beacon that can transmit the distance to a receiver; that seems unlikely.

But assuming what you say is valid in your context, you are not "triangulating", but "trilaterating". Search for "trilateration" and you'll find plenty (e.g. Wikipedia), though it will probably be mostly about what is actually done with real beacons that don't know whom they are transmitting to. (Actually, I take that back -- surveyors do trilateration with true distances all the time.)

Ahh perfect! Thanks!
Thats set me on the right direction :) now to re-learn maths I haven't used in years
cheers
