Fraction equation: (100x - 4000) / 100x = 0.3

Can someone helo me with a problem like this:

. . .(100x - 4000) / 100x = 0.3

I'm coming up with exponents and am very confused.

I don't know what you mean by "coming up with exponents"...? (This would be an example of why it is helpful to show your work.)

A good first step would be to multiply through by 100x. Then solve the resulting linear equation.
