What is the question? What do you have to find?

What is the expression for perimeter of a rectangle?

What a vague request for help. :roll:

(I'm guessing that you're supposed to find this rectangle's dimensions?)

What is it about this exercise that you do not understand?

Volunteers are here to guide people who need help with specific issues.

Can you make any start at all? What do you need to know?

Can you pick letters to represent the length and the width?

Have you seen the formula for calculating the perimeter of a rectangle using the length and the width?

Do you know what the word 'perimeter' means?

Show us what you already know, so that we can determine where to begin with you. 8-)

calculate rectangle: the length 1cm more than the width perimeter 110cm

70+110+110+x=360
290+x=360
290+x-290=360-290
x=70

Still confused, need help

Doesn't make sense - I'm confused too!

Please take time to write the EXACT question in its entirety.

70+110+110+x=360 <<< Where did 360 come from? Where did 70 come from?
290+x=360
290+x-290=360-290
x=70

Still confused, need help

professors complete question:
The length of a rectangle is one centimeter more than twice the width the perimeter is 110cm.? Does this make sense to anyone :? :lol: :roll:

Other than the question mark (?) - I do not see a question to be answered.

Does this make sense to anyone :? :lol: :roll:

the complete question including the part that was not stated.

The length of a rectangle is one centimeter more than twice the width, the perimeter is 110cm. Find the width and length.

Now it makes sense......

Let the

Length of rectangle = L

Width of rectangle = W

The perimeter of the rectangle = P = 2*(L + W)

"...The length of a rectangle is one centimeter more than twice the width..."

then

L = 2W + 1.........................................................(1)

"...the perimeter is 110cm..."

2* (L + W) = 110

L + W = 55

Using (1) in thw equation above:

2*W + 1 + W = 55

3 * W + 1 = 55

3 * W = 54

W = 18

L = 2* W + 1 = 2 *18 + 1 = 37

check:

Perimeter = 2 * (L+W) = 2 * (37+18) = 2 * 55 = 110 ............checks
