Goals of curve sketching and example of when to use it

I use curve sketching to visualize the function - for me visual representation works better.

I use curve sketching before I ask any question about the curve - like where are the intercepts, where are the asymptotes, etc.

Curve sketching is used in drafting; for instance, when splicing sections from curves of several equations together, to design the aerodynamic contour of a vehicle.

Personally, I look at function graphs mostly to visualize the function's behavior, especially in cases where it's not clear from looking at the algebra.

I just finished taking linear algebra and have two more weeks of calculus I. Not my favorite but have to take it, almost there.
