Hello,

A goat is tethered by a rope of length L to a point on the circumference of a circular field of radius R. Find L in terms of R if the goat can graze exactly half the area of the field.

What have you tried? Where are you stuck? Have you read this, about submission guidelines for the site?

I can tell you that the natural place to get stuck is in trying to solve the equation you get, which can't be solved algebraically. You will have to use numerical methods (such as a graphing calculator) to find the ratio L/R.
