Grade Percentage

Here is the question I have trouble with: Tyler has a 95% A in math; he takes a math test and scores an 88%. The math test counted for 65% of his grade. Is it possible to figure out his new percentage? If so, what is it? If not tell why, and what you would need to know to figure it out.

I'm not sure how to go about the question to solve for the answer. I'm really stuck as to what math to do to figure it out.

I attempted this problem by doing 88X65% and I got 5033.6. I knew that if the test counted for 65%, then probably his 95% in that class would count for only 35%. I multiplied 95X35% and got 3158.75. I added 5033.6+3158.75 and I got 8192.35. I then divided 8192.35 by 2 and my answer was 4096.175. I know that cannot be right.

Close to the right approach.
You are weighting the 2 scores with the 65% and 35% correctly , but need to deal withthe percent sign (means divide by 100).

So the 88X65% =5033.6 should be 88 x 65 / 100 = 50.336
and the same approach for the second score.
