:shock: 2,7,4,5.... All of these numbers must be used to come to a total of 24. The numbers can only be used once. Does anyone know the answer???? I have spent the past 5 hours trying to figure this out.

Actually the way you have stated the question it is nonsense!
Please review your posting!
State the question exactly as it is written.

Ok, sorry for the misconfusion, I'm only 13. The instructions were to "make 24 using these numbers only once, 2-7-4-5"

I think I found it...

Umm, do you have to use all of the numbers? cuz' if not, I got your answer:
5+7x2

Yeah. I have to use all of the numbers. I used 7x4-5+2 but I come up with 25 and not 24.

Yeah. This is a tough question. The only one in my class that seem to know the answer is, the teacher herself. :evil:

! means factorial; like 5! = 120 : 1*2*3*4*5 = 120, or 4! = 1*2*3*4 = 24 ; got that?
4! + 2 + 5 - 7 = 24

"floor" is a math operation that equals the integer part of a division;
7/4 = 1.75, so floor(1.75) = 1; ok?
25 - floor(7/4) = 24

But I think this'll be your teacher's answer:
sqrt(572+4) = sqrt(576) = 24 ; or sqrt(574+2)

EDIT: nice one, wjm!

THANKS to everyone for your help. I'm so glad I found this site. All of you are truly the best. :D
