Hi there!

First post so not sure if I'm in the right section, but can someone please clarify how 1 - P/Po, is equal to Po - P / Po.

I know it's probably really simple and I'm missing something, but the more I look at it the more confused I get.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there!

First post so not sure if I'm in the right section, but can someone please clarify how 1 - P/Po, is equal to (Po - P) / Po. [Those () are important to make the statement mathematically equivalent to the first statement.]

I know it's probably really simple and I'm missing something, but the more I look at it the more confused I get.

Thanks in advance.
\(\displaystyle \displaystyle{1\ - \ \frac{P}{P_o}}\)

= \(\displaystyle \displaystyle{\frac{P_o}{P_o} - \ \frac{P}{P_o}}\)

= \(\displaystyle \displaystyle{\frac{P_o \ - \ P}{P_o}}\)

If you still have trouble, repeat the calculation above with paper and pencil - don't just stare at it!!

It isn't! But it is equal to (Po- P)/Po as Subhotosh Kahn showd.

Thanks in advance.
