Help please simple question I think

I have been asked a question in my homework and I am stuck I want to do well but I am terified of getting it wrong because I think its an easy question.



The question is

What features should you be looking for when scanning datasets by eye.

It also asks for me to describe each one and go in to details ( I am happy to do this bit myself) I am just stuck as to what I should be looking for the only thing that comes to my head is outliers but am I wrong ?

Why does it matter if you think it is easy? Just solve it. Hard is okay.

"What features..." Subjective what have your course materials suggested? Missing data? Unexpected patterns? Streaks? Reasonableness.

Outliers?
Looking at data for the height of adult humans.

Are there any less than 1 meter? Not unheard of, but VERY unusual.
Any over 2.4 meters? Maybe, but unlikely.

Looking at data on wind storm speed.

Any under 10 km/h? Is that really a storm?
Anything over 480 km/h? Only if we're on Jupiter!

Missing Data?
Lots from 100-200 and lots from 300-400, but very few from 200-300?
Maybe. Do we have separate populations of juveniles and adults?

Unexpected Patterns?
Twice as many from 100-200 as there were from 0-100.
Twice as many from 200-300 as there were from 100-200.
Twice as many from 300-400 as there were from 200-300.
Maybe. Depends on the data source and collection.

Streaks?
Truly random data should have some streaks of various lengths. If there are NONE, someone likely tampered with the data to make it LOOK more random.

Reasonableness?
This is strongly related to outliers.

This is a discussion problem. Discuss!

If all you have is the word "outliers", with no discussion at all, then yes, you have not correctly responded to the assignment. Look for ANYTHING that could invalidate your results.

Is this a sorted dataset or unsorted dataset?
