Help solving side of parallelogram with 2 different variables

Help please. Usually, I set opposite sides of a parallelogram equal to each other and solve for the variable. In this case the variables are not the same so I do not know what to do with this problem.

Your proposed method will still work, it just means a bit more algebra and manipulating the equations. Setting opposite sides equal gives us:

5y = x + 8
3y + 8 = 2x - 4
