I keep being told I have the wrong answer. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Your agency is planning a one-day symposium and is charging $100 per participant. The conference center is will cost $5,000 for the facility rental, and will charge $15.00 per guest to provide lunch. You plan to spend $3.00 per person for program supplies, $1,000 for marketing and $1,500 for speaker fees. What is the number of paid attendees needed to break even?

Can you explain what you have done exactly to get 77.31? I don't understand your letters

It is not that hard. For each guest you get $100 and spend $15 on lunch and $3 for program supplies. In the end you get $82 per guest.
You need to pay $5,000 for rental, $1000 for marketing and $1,500 for speaker fees totaling $7500.

So how many $82 do you need to get to $7500????

Anutter look-see:

g = number of guests

expenses: 5000+1500+1000+15g+3g
revenue: 100g

Take over, Rover!

It makes so much since when you put it that way. I guess I kept trying to plug everything into a formula, and in the end, confused myself. Thanks!

Slow down and think(!!) what you are given and what you want to find before jumping to formulas!
