OK. I need to find out the answer (or simply how to do the problem) of this equation-

2.88 divided by .006

Thanks 4 the help guys!

reply to Dennis

yes. I can. the answer is 480. So.. how do i turn this into a decimal? (Thanks FOR the help so far.. might take a little more though- i'm clueless at math).

didn't see that.

4 is not a word: use FOR

Can you divide 2880 by 6?

My parents bought me a one-way ticket to Kansas

I didn't see that comment about Kansas last time i replied. What about Chicago? (former home)

Hi Lillybeth

\(\displaystyle 2.88 \div 0.006 = \dfrac{2.88}{0.006}.\) Right?

And I can multiply ANY number by 1 and not change it, correct. And I can divide any number (except zero of course) by itself and get 1, right?

So watch behind the scenes some simple magic, which denis performed with elan.

\(\displaystyle \dfrac{2.88}{0.006} = \dfrac{2.88}{0.006} * 1 = \dfrac{2.88}{0.006} * \dfrac{1,000}{1,000} = \dfrac{2,880}{6} = 480 = 480.,\) and 480. IS in decimal form.[/tex]

By multiplying both numerator and denominator by 1000, you got rid of all the decimals and were left with a division in integers without changing anything. That is the magic of the decimal system. Got it now?

This equation indicates that you are looking for an answer to ...
\(\displaystyle \text{Answer}=\frac{2.88}{0.006}\)

The trick is to multiply the answer by one before you solve it.
\(\displaystyle \text{Answer}=\frac{2.88}{0.006}*\frac{1000}{1000}\)

Then it becomes simply..
\(\displaystyle \text{Answer}=\frac{2880}{6}\)

OK... Agreed

DROP that attitude NOW
Make a DECISION that you're NOT clueless...

Ok... I'm not completely clueless, but my math grade is not so good, and I really need help! :(
