AND...the first factoring step you should always look for is removing a common factor from all of the terms of the expression. y^2 + 7y is an expression which has y as a common factor: y*y + 7*y. "y" is common to both terms. You can remove that common factor: y*(y + 7) Look at the denominator of your fraction? Can you remove a common factor from both of those terms? AND, once you have factored both numerator and denominator, is there a factor that's in both numerator and denominator that can be divided out?
