You're trying to solve [imath]4^x=8x[/imath].

You generally can't solve this kind of equation algebraically (unless you want to try the Lambert W function).

One exact solution can be found by guessing; the other probably needs some form of numerical approximation, such as a graphing calculator.

In case the OP is interested in trying the Lambert W function method, I recently did a similar example that way in this thread:

I can't solve (2^x) - 2x = 0 by hand

I know that the solution is {1,2} but only because the equation is easily solved graphically. How should I approach solving this using only a simple calculator?
