Kawn hiked up a hill at 4km/h and back down at 6 km/h. His total hiking time was 3h. How long did the trip up the hill take him?

distance uphill = distance downhill

let t = time uphill in hours, then 3-t = time downhill in hours

since rate*time = distance ...

4t = 6(3-t)

solve for t, the time in hours uphill.
