how many ways can numbers 1 through 50 be written?

My parents asked me these yesterday:

1) Show exactly how many different ways the numbers 1 - 50 can be written.

2) Show exactly how many different ways the numbers 1 - 30 can be written.

They say its written as a "brain tease", but I'm not sure. I showed them what I thought was all the ways, but they say it wasn't all of them.

SHOW EXACTLY HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS CAN THE NUMBERS 1-50 BE WRITTEN AND ALSO THE NUMBERS 1-30 BE WRITTEN ITS A BRAIN TEASE THEY SAY BUT IM NOT SURE I SHOWED THEM WHAT I THOUGHT WAS ALL THE WAYS IT CAN BE ARRANGED BU IT WASNT ALL THE WAYS

I'm guessing that there is some VERY IMPORTANT information we haven't been told, here.

For example, 1 could be written as 2-1, 3-2.4 - 3, 5 - 4, 6 - 5......and that just scratches the surface. What about 1/4 + 3/4? Or, 7/8 + 1/8? Or 10/9 - 1/9Pleas?? and a JILLION others??? And those are just a few ways to write the number "1".....

You could write the number 2 equally many ways. And what about 3, 4, 5 etc?
