I am not sure how to do this, could anyone give me an idea on how to start this off please?

You are given:
T1 = T2 and T2 = T3 and 3 eqns. in (E.2) and

there are two unknowns x1 and x2

Using the above "given" facts - write two equations for two unknowns (x1 and x2)

Please show us what you have tried and exactly where you are stuck.

I equated them and got the values for x1 and x2 as this:

x1 = -((-k2 k3 L - k1 k2 l1 - k1 k3 l1 + k2 k3 l2 + k2 k3 l3)/( k1 k2 + k1 k3 + k2 k3))

x2= -((-k1 k3 L - k2 k3 L - k1 k2 l1 - k1 k2 l2 + k1 k3 l3 + k2 k3 l3)/( k1 k2 + k1 k3 + k2 k3))

k1=k2=k3 and l1=l2=l3

so x1 = L/3, x2 = 2 L/3

But I am not sure if I did it the right way as the question asked to find and use the matrix equation specifically so does that mean i need to form it in a matrix form since the very next part of the question asks me to develop this part (b) so that it can represent three particles connected by 4 springs
