… g(x) + 2x² - 3x … [function g] is defined as follows. Find g(-5)?
Hello Robert. Your post contains an error, but I'm not sure which one.
My guess: The red plus sign above is supposed to be an equals sign. In other words, 2x
2-3x is function g's definition.
g(x) = 2x
2 - 3x
Symbol x is the input variable, and symbol g(x) is the output variable.
When we see g(-5), it means the input variable x has been assigned the value -5. We write g(-5) to represent the output of function g, when the input is -5.
To calculate that output value, we substitute -5 for x everywhere and simplify.
g(-5) = 2(-5)
2 - 3(-5)
Can you simplify the right-hand side?
PS: If instead you need help evaluating the expression g(x)+2x
2-3x when x is -5, then we need the definition for g(x).
