Can someone help me in understanding how to create the formula for a hyperbola when the only known values are:

1) Vertical Transient axis
2) The bottom of the hyperbolic trough is at co-ordinates (0,-10)
3) The area within the bounded region between y=-10 and y=0 is equal to 100.

The center of the hyperbola is unknown but it is vertically aligned with the co-ordinates on point 2 above.
The intercepts on the x axis are unknown.

Thank you in advance. This is not homework, I'm trying to further my understanding of maths.

When you say "transient axis", do you mean "transverse axis"? And do you have reason to think there is enough information to get a unique solution? Where does this come from?

In any case, since you want to further your understanding, how about starting by showing what you have tried? Then we can make suggestions based on that.
