Put the column of data in MS-Excel and sort it from smallest to highest (or highest to smallest) and continue....

Please show us what you have tried and exactly where you are stuck.

What I’ve tried is adding multiple combinations of these numbers together and trying to reach one of the numbers at the bottom. I’ve also tried doing the solver add-on in excel however I can’t make it load correctly.

The point of SK’s post is this: you can determine easily what the is minimum number of numbers required in a solution.

Unfortunately, excel is not great at this sort of problem. Do you know basic or python?

First of all, no combination of the circle numbers can equal 1020.20 and 826.82. In fact no sum from any list can equal 1020.20 and 826.82 since these two numbers themselves are not equal.

I suspect that you want two sets of numbers where one set adds up to 1020.20 and the other set adds up to 826.82. Since the total sum 1847.02 = 1020.20 + 826.82 you really just need one list of numbers that add up to 1020.20 (or 826.82) and the remaining number will add up to 826.82 (or 1020.20). I would try getting the .82 with possible carry overs and see if the whole numbers + carry overs will add up to 826.

Another problem is that when I add up the right most column it does not end in a 2, it ends in a 1. So the problem as written is not possible.
