Here is the problem:
Perpendicular Tangents
A circle of radius 5 intersects a circle of radius 12 so that the tangent lines at the points of intersection are perpendicular. What is the distance between the centers of the circles?

Draw a sketch of the situation - noting that for any circle a tangent at a point is perpendicular to the radial line at that point.

Also note that, for this problem, the tangent of one circle will be radial line of the other (at points of intersection).

Now invoke Pythagoras !!
