how do you simplify 4(3n+ m) + 3n + 4m

You might want to start by doing the multiplication. Multiply each term INSIDE the parentheses by the 4 which is OUTSIDE:

4*3n + 4*m + 3n + 4m
12n + 4m + 3n + 4m

Now....combine like terms.

distribute the '4' into all terms contained within the parentheses, and then combine like terms:

4(3n + m) + 3n + 4m = (12n + 4m) + 3n + 4m

...can you continue to simplify like-terms?
