Hi, dear tutors: i would need a little push to get me started. huhmm... it's proving a little bit difficult.

identical rugs are offered for sale at two local shops and on one online retailer.
the rug's regular sales price is $296 at store A
$220 at store B,
and $198 at store C.
Stores A and B collect 8% sales tax on any after discount price,
while store C collects no tax but charges a $ 35 shipping fee.
a buyer has a 30% off coupon for store A,
and a 10% coupon for store B.
which of these options lists the stores in order of lowest to highest final sales price after all discount and taxes and fees are applied?.
1) store A, B and C.
2) store B, C, and A.
3) store C, B and A
4) store C, A, and C.

thanks in advance for any hint, or help!]

Store A: Original Price = $296. You get 30% off. You pay 8% sales tax. What is the final price paid?
Store B: Original Price = $220. You get 10% off. You pay 8% sales tax. What is the final price paid?
Store C: Original Price = $198. No sales tax. $35 shipping fee. What is the final price paid?

30% of 296= 88.8
296-88.8= $288 after discount.
8% in sales tax =23.04 paid in sales taxes.
88.8+23.04=111.84
The final price paid in store A >111.84

I will continue tomorrow.
thanks a lot for the tip!!!!

30% of 296= 88.8
296-88.8= $288 after discount.
8% in sales tax =23.04 paid in sales taxes.
88.8+23.04=111.84
The final price paid in store A >111.84

I will continue tomorrow.
thanks a lot for the tip!!!!
why are you adding Sales Tax and Discount?

296-88.8=207.2 after discount
207.2 +23.4 (sales tax)=$230.6 final price in store A.
I was doing it on my cellphone. sorry. don't like to do math on the cell.
i will continue tomorrow with the rest of the calculations.

here's my work
Store A
ORIGINAL PRICE: $296 with a 30% discount
0.30*296=88.8 dollars discounted from the O.P, so,
296-88.8=207.2 (this is how much the buyer has to pay without the sales tax,
now, with a sales tax of 8% =0.08 [0.08*207.2=16.576 in sales tax]
final price in store A= 207.2+16.576= $223.776

Store B
ORIGINAL PRICE: $220 with a 30% discount.
0.30*220= $66 discounted off the op, so,
200-66=154 to pay without the sales tax,
sales tax is 8% of 154
0.08*154=12.32 dollars in sales tax, so,
154-12.32 =$166.32
final price in store B=$166.32

Store C
ORIGINAL PRICE: $198 with a 10% discount, so
0.10*198=1$9.8 discounted off of the OP,
198-19.8= $178.2 to pay.
there is no sales tax in this store but they charge a shipping fee of 35 dollars
so,
178.2+35 =$213.2
final price to pay in store C=$213.2

So, from lowest to highest the stores ranks like this: B, C, and A. (Second option in the answer choices

You need to double check which stores have which discounts.

A suggestion for faster calculations - when doing discount calculations instead of calculating the discount and then subtracting the result from the price you can first subtract the discount from 100% in your head (easy), then multiply the result by the price.

Yes, you're right.
Store B discount is not 30 but 10%.
I'll rectify that. Good tip!. Tx

Rectifyin' calculations for store C.
Store C
ORIGINAL PRICE: $198 no discount no sales tax offered but there is a $35 dollar fee for shipping.
so,
198+35 =$233
final price to pay in store C=$233.

So, from lowest to highest the stores ranks like this: B, A, and C.

Excellent tip, lev. Subtracting the discount from 100% is wayyyy better cos i'd be calculating % that'd be a quick calculation
