I have no idea what "roots" mean. Unless it's talking about the 2nth partial "root?"

I think you've interpreted it and solved it correctly (in two different ways!), but the problem itself is stated very poorly:

I think it's meant to be something like

If [imath]a_n=\sqrt{3\sqrt{5\sqrt{3\sqrt{5\dots}}}}[/imath], where the expression for [imath]a_n[/imath] contains exactly [imath]2n[/imath] radical symbols, ...​

In other words, at each term, two more nested radicals are put around the previous term.

The English grammar is wrong, and the wording is non-mathematical.
